HEYTEA Toppings and Add-On Prices

12 toppings priced from $0.49 to $1.99. This is the part of the HEYTEA menu that quietly decides what you pay. A $6.49 Classic Milk Tea becomes a $10.47 order with two add ons, and the calorie count more than doubles on the way.

Price is not the only thing that separates them. Sago and fat free boba pops both cost $0.49, and one carries 110 calories against the other's 5. Knowing which is which is worth more than knowing the price list.

Chewy Toppings: 7 Options, Very Different Jobs

All six add texture. They do not cost the same and they do not weigh the same, and the two rankings do not line up.

Brown Sugar Bobo

$1.99 · 80 calories

Warm tapioca pearls cooked in brown sugar syrup, the default boba add on.

Crystal Boba

$0.99 · 60 calories

Clear agar pearls, firmer than tapioca and 20 calories lighter for a dollar less.

Sago

$0.49 · 110 calories

Small clear tapioca pearls, softer than bobo and the cheapest chewy topping.

Matcha Jelly

$0.49 · 25 calories

Cubed green tea jelly at 25 calories, the lightest way to add texture to a cup.

Coconut Milk Jelly

$0.99 · 25 calories

Soft coconut jelly cubes that suit the fruit teas more than the milk teas.

Fat Free Boba Pops

$0.49 · 5 calories

Popping pearls at 5 calories, the only topping that barely moves the calorie count.

Grapefruit Pulp

$0.99 · 50 calories

Extra citrus segments, which push a fruit tea sharper without adding syrup.

The useful comparison is sago against fat free boba pops. Both are $0.49. Sago carries 110 calories and boba pops carry 5. If you want something to chew and nothing else, the pops are the obvious pick and almost nobody orders them.

Crystal boba at $0.99 is the other one worth knowing. It is a dollar cheaper than brown sugar bobo, 20 calories lighter, and it gives a firmer chew because it is agar rather than tapioca.

Creamy Caps: The Cheese Cloud Family

Three caps, two prices. The cap is the thing HEYTEA is known for, and it is savoury rather than sweet.

Cheese Cloud (Original)

$1.99 · 240 calories

The full salted cream cheese cap that turns any fruit tea into a cloud drink.

Light Cheese Cloud

$0.99 · 120 calories

Half the cream and half the calories of the original cap, for a dollar less.

Matcha Cloud

$1.99 · 230 calories

Cheese cloud whisked with matcha powder, spooned on top rather than stirred in.

Adding a cap to a cheap drink is the best value move on this menu. A $5.49 Jasmine Tea plus Light Cheese Cloud at $0.99 comes to $6.48. The built in Cloud Jasmine Tea is $5.49 for a similar drink. The gap is small, but the version you build yourself is lighter.

Full detail on how the caps differ and how to drink one sits on the cheese cloud menu page.

Swaps: Changing the Drink Rather Than Adding to It

Extra Matcha

$0.99 · 15 calories

One more matcha shot at 15 calories, the cheapest way to raise the caffeine in a cup.

Oat Milk Swap

$0.99 · 30 calories

Swaps dairy for oat milk on any milk build, which is how most milk teas go dairy free.

The oat milk swap is the one that matters most, because it is how nearly every dairy free order on this menu happens. It works on the plain milk builds and does not work on anything carrying a cheese cap. The dairy free guide covers which drinks convert and which never will.

Which Topping Suits Which Drink

Toppings are not interchangeable. A syrup heavy pearl in a citrus tea fights the drink rather than adding to it.

Milk tea and matcha latte

Brown sugar bobo or crystal boba. The syrup and the milk are built for each other, which is why the bobo drinks exist as their own builds.

Citrus and grape fruit teas

Grapefruit pulp at $0.99. It sharpens the drink rather than sweetening it, and adds only 50 calories.

Mango and coconut builds

Coconut milk jelly or sago. Both suit a soft tropical base. Sago is the heavier of the two at 110 calories.

Plain brewed tea

The original Cheese Cloud at $1.99. There is nothing underneath to bury, so the full cap earns its price here more than anywhere else.

HEYTEA Toppings Questions

Toppings run from $0.49 to $1.99. Sago, matcha jelly and fat free boba pops are all $0.49. Brown sugar bobo, the original Cheese Cloud and Matcha Cloud are all $1.99.

The middle tier at $0.99 holds crystal boba, coconut milk jelly, grapefruit pulp, Light Cheese Cloud, Extra Matcha and the oat milk swap.

Three share the floor at $0.49: sago, matcha jelly and fat free boba pops. They do very different things in the cup though.

Sago adds 110 calories, matcha jelly 25 and boba pops just 5. Same price, a 105 calorie spread between them.

Bobo is the chain's spelling of boba: tapioca pearls cooked in brown sugar syrup and dropped warm into the bottom of the cup.

At $1.99 it is the most expensive chewy topping, and at 80 calories it is not the heaviest. Sago at $0.49 carries 110.

Light Cheese Cloud at $0.99 is half the price and half the calories of the $1.99 original, at 120 against 240.

On a fruit tea the light version usually tastes better, because a full cap can bury the fruit. On a plain brewed tea the original is the better call, since there is nothing underneath for it to overwhelm.

The oat milk swap at $0.99 converts any plain milk build, adding about 30 calories.

It does not help on drinks that carry a cheese cloud cap, because the cap is a cream cheese foam and there is no plant based version of it on the menu.

Grapefruit pulp at $0.99 on the citrus builds, and coconut milk jelly at $0.99 on the mango and grape builds. Both add texture without adding a competing flavour.

Brown sugar bobo is the most common add and the least suited. It is a milk tea topping and its syrup flattens the fruit underneath.

It adds one more matcha shot for $0.99 and 15 calories. On a matcha build it deepens what is already there.

On a jasmine or black tea build it is the cheapest way to raise the caffeine in a cup, adding roughly 35 mg. Detail on the caffeine page.

There is no hard cap, but two is where most orders stop making sense. Two $1.99 toppings add $3.98, which is more than the $6.49 Classic Milk Tea underneath them.

The drink builder shows the running total so you can see where the line sits for your order.
